My Process
Analyse Interaction & Goal
Understand how the player interacts with the level and understand what the goal of the level is.
Moodboard & brainstorm ideas
Brainstorm different ideas for scenarios that use the player interactions and create a moodboard for the level.
2D
Taking the ideas into a 2D Layout of the level that maps interactions, points of interest and important landmarks.
For this I follow a technique where I look at the flow of the level, similar to the flow of energy in Feng Shui.
3D
Translating the 2D layout into 3D and making adjustments (eg. for visual composition)
